You will need:

• 4 Invisible Sew-in Magnetic Snaps in PVC covers, 1.5 cm (5/8″) or larger in diameter (see the note below);
• a sharp sewing needle;
• a sewing pin;
• yarn or fine sewing thread.

Note: Smaller magnets may not provide a strong enough hold through two layers of crocheted fabric. You can also use magnets of different sizes—for example, one 1 cm (3/8″) magnet and one 1.7 cm (11/16″) magnet. This combination also provides a secure magnetic connection.

Instructions

1. Turn the crochet piece inside out.

2. Position the PVC-covered magnet where it should be attached and secure it temporarily with a sewing pin.

3. Cut a short length of yarn or sewing thread. If using yarn, separate it into individual plies. Thread the yarn or thread onto a sewing needle.

4. Sew the PVC cover to the crochet piece. Insert the needle in the back part of the crochet stitches only, making sure the thread does not show on the right side of the fabric.

5. When finished, tie the thread ends together several times to secure the stitches, then trim the excess.

6. Sew the matching magnets onto the second piece, making sure to keep the correct polarity. Before finishing, check that the magnets align properly and attract each other as intended.
